Islah leader injured, son lost limb in assassination attempt in Aden

A prominent figure in the Yemen Congregation for Reform (Islah) party in Aden was slightly injured while his son was injured and lost his leg in the latest of the assassination attempts that have killed scores of the party's members over the past months.

An explosive device planted in the car of Aref Ahmed Ali exploded as he was driving by Al-Moaala Plaza Hotel on Tuesday morning.

Aref is a member of the Islah and of the Shura Council and a general secretary of the Union of Doctors in the temporary capital.

He had been detained by paramilitary forces in Aden for a week last October and then released on no charges leveled against him.

Government soldiers and pro government politicians, mosque preachers and activists are subject to continuous assassinations in Aden.
