UN peace mediation: Bringing peace or prolong the war

The UN special envoy for Yemen Martin Griffiths met with Abdul-Malik al-Houthi the leader of the Islamist rebel militia only days before the rebel leader delivered a televised address on the occasion of the militia's Day of the Rallying Cry "Death to America, Death to Israel..etc."

The Houthi leader urged his supporters to group and move to the west coast warfront against the Yemeni army.

The armed militia insists on continuing the war, bloodshed, and rebellion against the state.

The Iranians and their other proxies in the region including Hezbollah insist on maintaining the support to this devastating insurgency, making any chances of peace too dim.

This make Griffiths, like the Emirati Gulf daily said recently, required to clear the confusion over the nature of the dialogue he still wants to be held with Houthis. The paper, rightly, pointed that Griffiths should force the Houthis to comply with the resolutions of the UN Security Council and not to find partial solutions outside those resolutions and references.

The newspaper said that the division of solutions would encourage the putschists to steer the negotiations off the course and prolong the crisis rather than  resolve it.
