A 5.6-magnitude earthquake observed off Hadramout and Mahrah coasts

The Department of Meteorology and Early Warning against the various natural hazards in Hadramout governorate detected a 5.6-magnitude sea earthquake off the coasts of Hadramout and Mahrah provinces on Sunday.

According to a statement issued by the Department, a marine earthquake struck off the coast of Hadramout and Mahrah at force measured to be 5.6 on the Richter scale at a depth of 10 km. It happened 290 kilometers away from the city of Mukalla.

 

The epicenter of the earthquake was located in the eastern center of the Gulf of Aden, said the statement pointing out that residents of the provinces of Hadramout and Mahrah felt the aftershocks at 4:59 am Sunday morning.

In mid-June, a similar earthquake measuring 4.8 Richter occurred deep in the Gulf of Aden, opposite the provinces of Hadramout and Maharah.
