FM: Houthi-held Hodeidah port threat to regional security

Yemen'sForeign Minister said that the if the Hodeidah seaport remains under the control of the Houthi rebel militia, it poses a threat to the security and stability of the region.

Khalid Alyemani stressed that the port's remaining in the rebels' hands means they will continue to use it in admitting arms including missiles from Iran which poses a major threat to the security and stability of the countries of the region.

Alyemany made the remarks in a phone conversation with Alistair Burt, the UK minister for the Middle East at the Foreign Office.

The two ministers affirmed their support for the efforts of the UN envoy to Yemen Martin Griffiths to find a peaceful solution to the issue of Hodeidah, expressing hope that Griffiths could convince the rebels to hand over the city and the port peacefully without endangering the lives of its civilian residents.
