Political parties call for breaking Taiz siege

Yemen's political parties have appealed to the government and the Arab Coalition to break the years long siege imposed by Houthi militants around Yemen's central city of Taiz.

In a statement the Political Alliance of all parties in the city called on the government and the Arab Coalition to place emphasis on "liberating Taiz and breaking the siege around it."

The Alliance appealed to the UN Secretary General Martin Griffiths "to show some care about the Taiz siege, address the humanitarian crisis that is claiming the local people's lives."

"We invite him (Griffiths) to visit Taiz to see the suffering endured as a result of the Houthi constant siege and heavy shelling of neighborhoods."

The Alliance lauded the advances of the army with Arab Coalition backing in the northern western port city of Hodeidah, which culminated in the control of the city's main airport on Tuesday.
