WHO says diphtheria claims 91 lives in Yemen

The World Health Organization said on Saturday that diphtheria has claimed the lives of 91 people in Yemen since late October.

In a statement, the  WHO said that 1,725 suspected cases of diphtheria have been found in 20 Yemeni provinces and that Hodeidah and Ibb the worst affected.

The collapse of the health system in Yemen as a result of the Houthi three years long insurgency has caused the prevalence of serious epidemics including diphtheria, cholera, and dengue fever.
