Military spokesman: East Taiz precinct fully retaken, clashes calmed relatively

The spokesman of the armed forces in Yemen's southwestern city of Taiz  has said that the "East Taiz precinct" where clashes were going on between the army and rebels over the past couple of days has been fully retaken and the clashes with the rebels are seeing a relative calm.

In a statement on his Facebook account on Wednesday, Col. Abdul-Baset al-Bahr said "the armed forces managed to defeat the rebels" and killed a number of wanted men "including Osama al-Sharjabi" who is suspected to have links to terror organizations. The army arrested others, he said.

Clashes erupted between the government forces and militants after a series of assassinations against government soldiers, one cleric, and lastly, Hanna Lahoud, a Lebanese national who used to work as an employee of the International Committee of the Red Cross.
