Houthis planted in Yemen largest number of landmines since WWII, demining official says

 

A Yemeni official said on Monday that Houthi rebels had planted the largest number of landmines that one single country was plagued by since World War II.

Brig. Ameen Al-Aqeeli the Director of the National Center Combating Landmines, told the state-run news agency "Saba" that the armed forces have in the past couple of years removed 300,000 landmines planted by the Islamist rebels who have been waging a diehard armed insurgency since May 2015.

"No other country in the Middle East or North Africa has suffered a landmines disaster worse than Yemen's", he said.
