Yemeni Children: Double victims of Houthis

Houthis are killing Yemeni children in two ways rendering them double victims. Firstly, the Shia Islamist rebels have recruited children without their relatives' consent or knowledge, training them to become fearless holy warriors and deploying them on the frontlines.

The human rights ministry and civil society organizations' records showed that the rebels recruited more than 10,000 child fighters from 2014 to 2017. In the year 2017, the militia recruited an additional number of 900 children, according the Coalition for Monitoring Human Rights Violations in

Yemeni CSOs including the chief of the Yemeni Coalition for Monitoring Human Rights Violations  unveiled in presentations at the Human Rights Council in Geneva early this month that they had documented the forced recruitment of 902 child fighters in 2017. Of course a large proportion of the militia's fighters will remain children and Houthis continue recruitments to date and will continue into the future unchecked and unnoticed by the international community.

Secondly, the rebels have especially attacked children in their savage aggressions against civilians across the country

In a seminar held on the sidelines of the 37th session of the Human Rights Council this month, Minister of Human Rights Mohammed Askar said that since they mounted their coup d'état in September 2014, the Iran-backed rebels "have killed 1353 children" across Yemen

Houthis killed most of their child victims in Yemen's central city of Taiz massacring them individually by semi-daily sniper shootings and en mass by heavy shelling of the city's neighborhoods.

Since the invasion of the city in March 2015, the rebels have killed more than 700 children and injured 2700 others, according to the Human Rights Information and Training Center, a Taiz-based NGO.

Houthi snipers seem to want to kill as many children as possible as social networking activists continuously report with pictures new child victims of Houthi sniper attacks.
