Foreign Ministry reiterates call for pressuring Iran to stop supporting Houthi militia.

Foreign Minister Abdul-Malik al-Mekhlafi has stressed the need for the international community to work together to stop Iran from continuing to export weapons to the Houthi rebels in violation of UN Security Council resolutions.

During his meeting with the US Ambassador to Yemen Matthew Tueller in Riyadh on Sunday, al-Mekhlafi said the Iranian support helps perpetuate the Houthi insurgency.

He expressed the Yemeni government's support for the new UN Secretary-General's envoy, Martin Griffiths, noting that the government had previously supported the efforts of his predecessor Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, but the Houthis worked in every way to prevent a sustainable settlement from being reached.
