UNESCO condemns killing of TV correspondent in Taiz

The Director-General of UNESCO, Audrey Azoulay, has denounced the the Houthi killing of a TV correspondent in Taiz on 22 January.

Mohammed al-Qadasi a correspondent of Belqees TV channel was killed among civilians and soldiers by a Houthi ballistic missile fired on a graduation ceremony of policemen in Taiz.

“I condemn the killing of Mohammad al-Qadasi,” said Azoulay. “Journalists working in Yemen are taking tremendous risks to perform their professional duties, often providing civilians with information that is vital for their survival. I therefore call on all parties to ensure the safety of reporters and respect their civilian status in line with the Geneva Conventions."
