HRITC calls on UN to save Taiz villages from Houthi atrocities

The Human Rights Information and Training Center (HRITC) has appealed to the international community "represented by the UN Secretary General" to save the villages of Taiz from "genocidal" atrocities that that Houthis have been committing since December 19.

The Taiz-based NGO appealed in a press statement to the international community to intervene "to save the villages of Al-Haymah in Taiz" which the Houthi militants are cordoning off and showering with rockets.

"The militia is conducting a massive rounding up of citizens to jails and putting them as human shields in the front lines," read the HRITC's statement. The statement said the Houthis are shooting fire intentionally at civilians "amidst a local and international silence."

The fighting broke out between the villagers and the Houthi insurgents following the Houthi latters' killing of the former president Ali Abdullah Saleh for defecting to the government's side.
