Yemen says Houthi threat to shipping clear defiance to international laws

Yemen has said that the Houthi threat to block shipping in the Red Sea is a clear defiance to the international laws humanitarian laws and to the United Nations.

The chairman of the Supreme Committee for Relief Aid Abdurraqib Fatah said in a press statement that the threat which rebel leader Saleh al-Sammad in the Houthi-held Sana'a conveyed to the deputy UN envoy Maeen Shureim on Monday "proves that this group is determined to rebel against all international laws and go on with  its destructive and catastrophic agenda endangering the regional and global peace in the seawaters."

Al-Sammad threatened that his militia will block shipping traffic off the Yemeni coasts if the government presses ahead with its advances in the western coast.

Fatah said that the "the international community and United Nations have to press the Houthi militia by all means to hand over all air and sea ports to the legitimate government" warning that the blockage of shipping would further worsen already dire humanitarian situation which the Shiit Islamist fighters plunged Yemen into.
