Army arrests African mercenary fighting in rebels' side

2017-11-09

The Yemeni army has arrested a young African mercenary fighting alongside the rebel Houthi-Saleh militias in Yemen's northwestern city of Meedi in Hajja, a military source said on Thursday without revealing the mercenary's name or when he was arrested.

Preliminary confessions of the mercenary showed he holds the Djibouti nationality and had received training in one of the African islands opposite to Yemen's Red Sea territorial waters, the source told reporters.

The arrestee said that there are training camps for militants in the said islands where men from different African nationalities receive military training by Lebanese and Iranian experts to be sent to join the radical Shiit Islamist militias of Houthis battling the Arab-backed government.
