The mothers of dozens of political oppositionists abducted and detained by the Houthi-Saleh rebel militias have voiced their extreme concerns about the safety of their children after they learnt that one detainee has been tortured to death in a prison in the capital Sana'a.

The mothers, who organize themselves in the Abductees' Mothers Association, said in a press statement that "several abductees have been subjected to a severe torture in Habrah prison which led to the death of one of them whose identity is still undisclosed by the prison supervisors."

They said that "dozens are severely and systematically tortured in the Political Security Jail (intelligence jail), Harah Jail and several other secret jails" run by the radical militias.

They said that the militias bear responsibility for the life and safety of their sons, renewing the call to the international community "to assume their humanitarian and legal obligation toward the abducted and forcibly disappeared in the Houthi jail" by rescuing them and pressuring on the militias to release them unconditionally.

According to an earlier report by the Association, the militias killed 22 abductees in their jails by brutal torture during the first half of 2017 alone.

The radical militias use all known techniques of inflicting pain; electric shocks, sleep deprivation, mock execution, hanging upside down by feet until consciousness is lost and severe beating. The few detainees they released are either traumatized or incapacitated.
