Hundreds of people took to the streets in different parts of south and eastern Yemen on Tuesday to demand the ouster of the Southern Transitional Council armed militia and the return of the forcibly exiled government.
Protesters blocked the streets of Aden in the south, Mukalla of Hadhramout in the east and staged rallies in Socotra archipelago to demand the departure of the UAE-backed militia that rules over their cities in place of the forcibly exiled government and withholds public services from them.
Schools and shops closed in Mukalla, the provincial capital of Mukalla and protesters marched in the streets. Dozens of people blocked the streets of Crater in downtown Aden, set car tyres ablaze while chaying slogans demanding "the departure" of the STC. Protesters in Aden chanted, "Leave, leave monkeys," a popular name the angry population use for the lawless separatists who control Aden since the coup of 2019.
In response the STC declared a state of emergency in the city as of early Tuesday.
