Alsahwa Net-The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mohammad Al-Hadhrami, said on Sunday that the special session by the UN Security Council (UNSC) scheduled to be held on Wednesday 15 July to discuss the Safer tanker, reflects international interest and concern to the issue.
He said that the government is looking forward adoption of firm measures to force the Houthis accept a resolution that can avert imminent disastrous oil spill in the Red Sea.
He indicated that the Houthis often procrastinate whenever international pressures mount on them.
He said that the Houthis’ announcement on intention to allow the UN inspectors access the tanker and repair it are not enough towards ending threats posed by the decaying tanker.
Al-Hadhrami pronounced this during his meeting on the same day with the US Ambassador to Yemen, Christopher Henzel.
Al-Hadhrami and Henzel discussed Yemen’s developments including the Safer tanker issue and the UN-led peace efforts.
Al-Hadhrami affirmed that the recent proposal by the UN Special Envoy to Yemen that was accepted by the government and rejected by the Houthis, must be binding.
