Alsahwa Net-Minister of Information, Muamar Al-Eryani warned on Thursday against African migrants’ military recruitment by the Houthis militia.
Al-Eryani said that the Houthis use the African refugees and illegal migrants for military acts to harm Yemen’s security and stability.
Somali refugees who were captured by the government forces confessed that the Houthis recruited them using attraction and coercion methods, according to Al-Eryani.
The Houthis force the refugees to do logistics tasks, espionage activities and fight for the Houthis’ side following threats and torture against the victims, Al-Eryani said.
“Exploitation of refugees and illegal immigrants from Horn of Africa countries by the Houthi militia in military actions against the national army is a war crime and a crime against humanity,” he said.
He said that the use of the African refugees by the Houthis is an indication of fighters’ shortage and inability to deceive more fighters from tribesmen to join their forces.
Al-Eryani called on the UN and the International Organization of Migration (IOM) to condemn such violations committed by the Houthis.
