Alsahwa Net-The American Center for Justice (ACJ), a US-based non-government organization (NGO) warned on Wednesday about mistreatment being inflicted on the COVID-19 patients by the Houthis.
The ACJ said in a statement that the action threatens a large-scale health disaster which will affect everyone.
Reported malpractices by the Houthis include disappearance of the COVID-19 patients, intimidation against the suspected cases and sending gunmen with ambulances.
“All these ill-treatments violate national laws, humanitarian values, international conventions, medical norms and effective health measures around the world,” the ACJ said.
It condemned mandating of the COVID-19 emergency to the Houthis-run intelligence service; the Preventative Security.
It said that the Houthis views the pandemic as a security risk that threatens existence of their group and not a national disaster that threatens lives of the people.
The Houthis deliberately cover up the number of the COVID-19 cases and ban family communication to isolated cases, the center said.
Families to the COVID-19 patients, reported to the ACJ that they know nothing about fate of their isolated relatives.
The ACJ called on the Houthis to immediately halt such inhumane practices and commit to the health regulations that contain the infection and provide psychological and medical care to the patients.
It called on the United Nations (UN) and the World Health Organizations (WHO) to swiftly intervene and exercise pressures on the Houthis to deal with openness and responsibility at responding to the epidemic.
