Houthis killed 43 civilians in one week

Alsahwa Net- The Houthis rebels have killed 43 civilians among them six women and twelve children in areas under their control in north Yemen, a local human rights organization said on new report released on Wednesday.

The Yemeni Network for Rights and Liberties documented human rights abuses carried out by the Houthis against the civilians from 6 September to 13 September 2019.   

Total human rights violations that were verified reached over 1,000 abuses, according to the Yemeni Network for Rights and Liberties.

Seven civilians out of the total 43 murder cases, were killed in a weapon store explosion in a residential area of Hodeida, the report noted.

It explained that other six cases of civilian death were confirmed in a Houthi-landmine blast where four children lost their lives in the same accident. 29 others were injured by the same landmine among them eleven children and three women, the report said.

13 civilians were shot dead during security raids in various parts of the Houthi-held areas, according to the report.

And three people were gunned down by the Houthis snipers.

It noted that the Houthis committed three massacres using random shelling at citizens’ houses during the same period which resulted into death of 13 civilians. Two massacres took place in Al-Tuhaita and Hais districts of Hodeida and the third happened in Sala district of Taiz. Most victims were children, according to the report.

Other abuses included arbitrary arrests and forcible disappearances against citizens in Al-Dhala’, Ibb, Sana’a and Hodeida.

It explained that the Houthis militants set five houses on fire during security raids they carried out between 6 September to 13 September 2019 in Al-Dhala’, Hodeida, Sana’a, Ibb and Hajja.

It added that the militants have also changed seven children schools in Hodeida into military recruitment camps. Around 150 children were military recruited by the Houthis during one week in Ibb, Hodeida and Dhamar.
