Alsahwa Net-The US Special Envoy to Iran, Brian Hook said on Sunday that Tehran supports terrorists and rebels in Yemen and that the arms embargo on Iran must be extended.
In an interview with the London-based Asharq Al-Awsat daily Newspaper, Brian said that the US seeks endorsement of a new resolution on Iran by both permanent and non-permanent-members of the UN Security Council.
He said that it is important that current arms embargo be extended.
The effective arms embargo on Iran began 13 years ago and its expiry is due on 18 October 2020.
Hook indicated that lifting the arms embargo would increase threats on the Middle East and the US allies in the Gulf region and the world.
He added that the lifting of the embargo would increase arms exports from Iran to Yemen, Syria, Iraq and Lebanon.
He said that The US totally rejects the lifting of arms embargo and that the interests of the Middle East nations is to support development efforts, improve the people’s living standards and end deep-rooted causes of extremism and terrorism that include poverty, dictatorship and lack of good governance.
He said that he planned visits to several European and Arab countries to discuss developments related to the Iranian threats to the region and the need to extend the arms embargo.
