Alsahwa Net- The Minister of Information, Muammar Al-Eryani, said on Thursday that the Houthis are responsible to warnings of cutting back volume of humanitarian aides to the Houthis-held areas.
Donors and humanitarian organizations said early this month that they consider reduction of aids to the Houthis-held areas due to corruption and obstruction of access to the needy people by the Houthis rebels.
Yet, Al-Eryani said that such action if implemented will bring negative results to livelihoods of citizens in the Houthis-held territory.
The fighting in Yemen which was initiated by the Houthis’ coup in late 2014 has made the country the world’s worst crisis that made millions of people survive only on food aids brought by aid agencies, according to the United Nations (UN) reports.
Al-Eryani said the Houthis’ practices that include stealing of food aids and their hindrance to the humanitarian work have made donors and humanitarian agencies to decide on reduction of aids to the Houthis-held areas.
“The Houthis do not pay attention to results of reduction of humanitarian aids because they practice policy of starvation against citizens to continue suppression against the people,” Al-Eryani said.
He called on the donors and humanitarian agencies to find alternative mechanism for aids delivery to the needy people in the Houthis-held areas through the legitimate government without being subject to Houthis’ pressure and extortion.
