Alsahwa Net- Ahmed Al-Fadhli, governor of the Central Bank of Yemen (CBY) said that the international community must do its responsibility towards forcing the Houthis to halt ban of the newly-printed banknotes circulation.
The Houthis banned last mid-December circulation of the newly-printed banknotes in their held areas and threatened cash confiscation and one-year imprisonment against anyone found using the new cash notes.
Al-Fadhli said that such actions are meaningless and only hurts the national economy.
He added that new note circulation ban by the Houthis just deepens the humanitarian crisis and allows looting of citizens’ money using illegal pretexts.
Al-Fadhli said this during a meeting in Aden with chief of the European Union Mission to Yemen and Ambassadors of France and Sweden to Yemen.
Al-Fadhli reviewed with diplomats of the EU countries efforts by the CBY management to stabilize value of the national currency against foreign currency exchange.
He said that the CBY management in Aden has been paying monthly salaries to the state military and civil personnel including the public servants in the Houthis-held areas despite Houthis’ looting of the state revenues in their areas.
He added that the Houthis-ban to circulation of the new cash notes has disturbed payment of monthly salaries to the civil personnel in the Houthis-held areas.
He called on the international community to halt the Houthis’ action that damages the national economy and worsens the humanitarian crisis.
