Yemen demands international pressures on Houthis to end war

Alsahwa Net- Abdullah Al-Sa’di, Yemen’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations (UN) renewed calls by the Yemeni government to the UN Security Council (UNSC) to exercise more pressures on the Houthis rebels to implement the UNSC resolutions on Yemen to reach a comprehensive agreement to resolve the conflict.
Al-Sa’di voiced this during an open session by the UNSC on international peace and security which was attended by the UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres.
Al-Sa’di affirmed that any comprehensive political dead should meet aspirations of the Yemeni people for sustainable peace that is based on the three agreed references.
He appreciated efforts exerted by the UN Special Envoy to Yemen towards reaching a comprehensive political deal to end the ongoing five- year war.
“The Yemeni government still expresses its true intention for achieving fair and sustainable peace…. despite continuous defiance by the [Houthis] militia to implementation of the previous agreements and the relevant UNSC resolutions,” said Al-Sa’dai.
The three agreed references include the GCC power transfer initiative, outcomes of the national dialogue conferences and the UNSC resolutions on Yemen particularly the 2216.
He added that the government remains determined to materialize the federal system in Yemen to boost local economic development and strengthen peace and security in the region.
He indicated that emergence of armed groups and militias is to be blamed for low security and peace in various parts of the world and that support to national governments can main the world security and peace.
