Alsahwa Net- A group of political detainees’ mothers carried out on Thursday 18 July 2019 a sit-in before the UN Envoy Office in Sana’a in a protest to the Houthis-death sentencing of 30 detainees.
The Abductees’ Mothers Association, a local NGO that supports victims of illegal detention and enforced disappearance has organized the Thursday’s sit-in in Sana’a.
The association held the UN accountable for lives and safety of the 30 detainees who were handed the death rule by the Houthis militants on 9 July 2019.
Victims of the death rule have been in detention since 2016 and have been subjected to various forms of psychological and physical torture.
The 30 -death sentenced-detainees are academic workers, students and political activists who belong to the Islah party that sided with the government against the Houthis’ coup in late September 2014.
“The great negligence of our detained sons has caused major abuses that led to such illegal trails of the detainees,” said detainees’ mothers in a statement of the sit-in.
They called on all human rights organizations, human rights activists and media outlets to stand with them for halting the illegal death sentence and releasing victims of arbitrary detention with no conditions.
“Our detained sons were severely tortured in detention. They were vulnerable to electric shock, brutal beating, nails removal, needle insertion under nails, tying their male organs to the cells doors and were forced to go fully stripped naked,” the association said in a previous statement.
It added that victims were ordered to drink sewage water and they were banned visitation and access to food and medicine brought by their family members.
