Net- A top US military official said on Wednesday that his country has started talks with a number of countries to form a military coalition to protect maritime navigation around Iran and Yemen.
General, Joseph Dunford, chief of the US Military Joint Chiefs of Staff, said in a briefing to journalists on Wednesday morning 10 July 2019 that the US army works with several countries towards formation of a military coalition to guard sea navigation at the two straits of Hurmuz and Bab El-Mandab.
Countries that are wiling to be part of the coalition will be named within the coming two weeks, according to Dunford.
He added that the US military will work with armies of member countries to outline required resources.
This new move by the US for maritime navigation protection around Iran and Yemen followed attacks in May and June of this year against oil tankers in the Gulf water. Until now, it is unclear who attacked the oil tankers. But, the US points fingers at Iran and its affiliated militants in the region.
