IFJ condemns Houthi fatal torture of journalist

The International Federation of Journalists has condemned the Houthi fatal torture of Yemeni journalist Anwar Al-Rakan that led to his death shortly after his release from the rebels jail in Taiz. The IFJ called the treatment "barbaric."

Al-Rakan died on 8 June just two days after his release from a Houthi detention facility in the remaining part of Taiz city which the extremists control.

“We utterly condemn the barbaric treatment our brother Anwar was subjected to. It is not a coincidence that we chose Yemen as one of the seven countries for our الوصف: Description: Opens external link in new windowEnd Impunity campaign," read the IFJ's statement.
