Saudi defenses intercept Houthi ballistic missile

Saudi air defenses intercepted a ballistic missile fired by Houthi rebel militia towards Saudi Arabia's Jazan region early Thursday, destroying it before reaching its target.

Colonel Turki al-Maliki, the spokesman for the Arab Coalition forces supporting the Yemeni government, said that the Coalition's air defenses spotted the launch of a ballistic missile by the Iran-aligned Houthis from the Yemeni territory of Saada towards Saudi territory.

The rocket, which was spotted at 01:58 on Thursday, it was directed towards Jazan city. It had been deliberately launched to target civilian and populated areas, Maliki said.  The Saudi Royal Air Force was able to intercept and destroy it and as a result no casualties were incurred.
